The Kirjes Sanding system includes a range of flexible inflatable sanders that conform to the shape of the material they are pressed against. Durable sanding cloth sleeves are available in different grits to create a smooth finish.
Check that the rubber bulb is centered under the washers so that there will be no air leakage.
Check that the Allen screw and the nut are screwed on tightly. It should be enough to tighten the nut by hand.
Install the sanding sleeve on the rubber. There is a seam that connects the two ends of the sanding paper and slightly overlaps. The higher side of the sanding sleeve needs to rotate into your workpiece first. So if your machine rotates clockwise, the sanding sleeve edge needs to face counter-clockwise.
The sanding sleeve needs to extend a bit beyond the rubber so that the rubber is protected. And this allows you to softly press the inflatable sanding drum into the workpiece with any of the edges.
The sander is pumped up through the air inlet hole in the shaft. If you use the Kirjes hand pump, press the shaft tightly into the pump. Pump carefully until you have the desired amount of air in the inflatable sanding drum. The inflatable sanding drums need very little air. With the Kirjes hand pump, a single pump is enough for the small cylindrical sanding drums.
When you squeeze the inflatable sanding drum, you should still be able to feel the shaft in the middle. Otherwise you overinflated it.
Air leakage through the air inlet hole in the shaft can be caused by dirt underneath the valve rubber. If this happens, dismantle the rubber bulb from the kernel. Then roll up the valve rubber and clean it.
Recommended speed is 3000 to 4000 rpm. Maximum speed is 6000 rpm.
To deflate, untighten the nut.
Always wear proper eye protection and make sure you are using an adequate dust collection system.
