As opposed to traditional hook tools, this is manufactured from a single block of fine grained HSS steel. The advantage of this process is that the scructure of the steel remains absolutely homogenous all the way through.
Hand forged hook tools tend to have areas that are harder than others. As a consequence, getting caught on the wood can result in a damaged hook tool.
