A round nose scraper that is used to put a fine finish on curved workpieces like bowls.
What is a scraper?
Scrapers are finishing chisels for end wood. They are often used to remove the unevennesses that remain after using other woodturning tools. Scrapers take small amounts of wood from the workpiece. They come in different shapes and thicknesses so you can choose the right one depending on the shape and depth your workpiece. An advantage of the thicker (extra heavy) scrapers is that they absorb vibrations better. You can make a scraper cut by putting a burr on it. We recommend putting a light oil on the steel when not in use to keep it in perfect condition.
