Making hollow forms has become very popular with many woodturners. Robert Sorby has therefore designed a number of special tools that make the turning of these shapes much easier. The curved hollowing chisels are used for workpieces where the diameter of the hole is (much) smaller than its internal diameter. Straight hollowing tools are used for the deeper parts of these workpieces. Both the straight and the curved hollowing tools are available in several dimensions.
The smallest Robert Sorby swan neck tool is the 850H at 355 mm in length. The cutting edge of this tool is machined from high speed steel section and is designed to work through the narrowest of apertures. As small as 10 mm.
