Finishing Oil is a version of Danish Oil* and uses Tung Oil as its base, but with the addition of solvents and dryers. This promotes and dramatically accelerates the drying of the product, so that it dries within eight hours. It has a pale amber colour and dries to a hard but flexible film that is highly abrasion and water resistant.
For a high-gloss finish, apply several coats with light rubbing between coats; a good sheen should be visible after five or six coats.
Finishing oil is usually applied with a cloth, but a brush can be used successfully on larger areas.
*Danish Oil was and is a product promoted by Rustins. The late great Ronnie Rustin was very kind and helpful to Chestnut in their early years and they did not reuse the name as a mark of respect.
