If your grindstone has worn and become uneven, this can be easily fixed with the TT-50 Truing Tool. It makes your stone round and flat again, with maximum precision. The tool's diamond tip removes the very top layer of the grindstone at the points where there's too much material. The TT-50 Truing Tool fits all Tormek machines with a universal support, and works on all grinding wheels except for the diamond grinding wheels.
Why TT-50 Truing Tool?
- Keeps your grindstone round and flat.
- High precision and quality with a patented design.
- Easy to use.
- Fits all Tormek machines with a universal support.
Maintain the shape of your grindstone
It's easy for your grindstone to become hollowed out or oval over time when sharpening different tools with varying pressure. With the patented TT-50 Truing Tool, you can quickly and easily make your grindstone exactly round and flat again if it's lost its shape. It's particularly important for your grindstone to be completely round and flat when sharpening planer blades and plane irons.
The TT-50 Truing Tool fits all Tormek machines with a universal support. The truing tool works on all Tormek grinding wheels except for the diamond grinding wheels, which have a steel body. You'll damage both the tool and the grinding wheel if you use the truing tool on a diamond grinding wheel.
High precision and ease of use
The TT-50 Truing Tool is made of cast zinc, which minimizes play and improves the precision and quality of the tool. You can comfortably feed the diamond tip over the stone by turning the two knobs with both hands. The controlled feed makes the surface of the stone smooth and keeps it free of rough marks.
The tool is guided by the universal support, which also controls the jigs. This ensures that the surface of the stone will always be parallel to the tool in the jig after having used the TT-50 Truing Tool. The cut depth is set precisely using the Micro Adjust on the universal support. The Micro Adjust nut on the universal support has a scale showing every 0.25 mm (0.01") for the most accurate material removal possible.
Create a more or less rough surface
The feed rate, between about 30 and 90 seconds, can be used to choose how rough a surface you want for your grindstone. The faster you feed the diamond tip over the stone, the rougher the surface will be. This means you'll remove more steel during sharpening, which is a great advantage when sharpening tools made of hard steel and which have a large sharpening surface.
The slower you feed the diamond tip over the stone, the less rough the surface will be. A time of 90 seconds across the stone gives you a slightly finer surface with hardly any visible marks. The surface will always be rougher than when you use the coarse side of the SP-650 Stone Grader no matter how slowly you feed the diamond tip across the stone.
For earlier Tormek models
If you have an older machine that doesn't come with Micro Adjust on the universal support, you can update your machine with the US-105 Universal Support for the Tormek T-8 and older machines with a 250 mm (9 7/8") grinding wheel, or the US-103 Universal Support for the Tormek T-4 and older machines with a 200 mm (7 7/8") grinding wheel. Then you can use the TT-50 Truing Tool easily and conveniently.
Replace the diamond tip
The diamond tip in the TT-50 Truing Tool can be easily replaced when worn, using the ADV-D Diamond Exchange Tip for TT-50. We recommend trying to slightly turn the worn diamond tip of the truing tool before replacing it, as this might make it work a couple more passes. There's a chance that new diamonds will emerge and the tip will start working properly again.
